What is Drawing & Talking therapy?
Drawing & Talking is a non-directed approach that uses drawing to explore and communicate emotions. It offers a way of beginning with an image when explaining a feeling directly may be difficult.
The emphasis is on emotional expression, rather than artistic performance. You do not need to be good at drawing. Jane can explain the approach and discuss whether it fits the needs of the person seeking support.
Who is Drawing & Talking for?
Jane offers this approach for children of all ages, people with learning difficulties and people who find it hard to identify or communicate feelings through regular talking therapy. Suitability is discussed individually before a programme begins.
For a parent or carer, an initial enquiry is an opportunity to describe the support you are looking for and ask about how sessions would work. For someone enquiring for themselves, it is equally fine to begin with a short question rather than a detailed explanation.
The 12-session programme
Jane’s Drawing & Talking programme includes 12 sessions, each lasting 30 minutes, for a total fee of £500. The fee is for the full programme; a separate pay-per-session rate is not listed.
Before committing, ask Jane about scheduling, payment arrangements and what happens if a session needs to be changed. These details should be agreed directly, rather than assumed from the programme price.
How does the process begin?
- Contact Jane. Say whether you are enquiring for yourself or someone you care for, and provide a safe way to reply.
- Discuss individual needs. Ask how drawing is used, who the approach may suit and what the programme involves.
- Agree the programme arrangements. Confirm scheduling, fees, consent where applicable and confidentiality before starting.
How is it different from talking therapy and play therapy?
Talking therapy is led through conversation and is offered to adults, teenagers and older children. Play therapy uses toys, games, objects and sometimes art to help children and young people express themselves. Drawing & Talking centres on drawing within Jane’s published 12-session programme.
You do not need to decide which approach is right before making an enquiry. Jane can talk through the differences with you. Compare durations and prices on the therapy fees page.
